How many people can go?
We are currently looking for 12 enthusiastic individuals but have room for up to 20. Worldwide Quest will provide 2 experienced guides per 12 participants.
What equipment will we need for the Quest?
You will need to bring your own personal clothing & equipment, including backpacks, sleeping bags, hiking boots, poles, rain jacket, fleece, sunscreen, flashlight, water bottle, binoculars, insect repellent and other miscellaneous items. A recommend list of clothing & equipment will be sent to participants.
What equipment will be provided for the Quest?
Items such as: tents, kitchen equipment, and safety gear (including satellite phone) will be provided.
What level of fitness is required to participate?
We would classify this as a Level 1+ trip. You should be fit and capable of carrying up to 15kg (35lb.) approximately 8 km a day.
Do I need any previous experience in the activity?
This trip does not require any previously experience but related experience (camping, swimming, etc.) will be helpful.
What is the terrain like?
There will be some uphill walking, as well as optional more challenging excursions.
What will be the weather?
The Baffin Island weather is best described as ‘arctic’ weather: variable and often windy, be prepared for everything: sun, wind, rain, snow!
Who are the guides?
The guides provided will be exceptionally qualified. Each principal guide has an extensive outdoor background, formal training and leadership experience.
The guides are always ready to provide coaching and helpful advice on any aspect of the trip and will attempt to maximize the spirit of adventure for each individual.
You can be a part of this unique challenge, hosted by the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders. There are many ways to participate:
Apply to be an Arctic Voyageur You don’t need to have a rare disease to make the voyage. We welcome family, friends, and supporters. No age or physical restrictions. Just be able to carry out the activities. We will help you set up your own support on-line campaign.
Sponsor an Arctic Voyageur Visit the CORD Arctic Quest website. Read the individual stories. Make a contribution and help someone fulfill his or her quest.
Sponsor the CORD Arctic Quest* Make a contribution. Your name or organization will be inscribed on the Arctic Quest Scroll which our voyageurs will carry to the Arctic Circle and back.
Commitment to Participate
Voyageurs: Each voyageur shall raise a minimum of $5,000 towards the cost of the trip.
